17th Governor of Sikkim, Hon’ble Chief Minister Shri Prem Singh Tamang introduced Sikkim Governor nominee Shri Lakshman Prasad Acharya at Raj Bhawan. Gangtok Governor Designate Shri Lakshman Prasad Acharya was warmly welcomed by Chief Minister Shri Prem Singh Tamang at Gangtok’s Raj Bhawan today. On February 16, 2023, Shri Lakshman Prasad Acharya will be sworn in as Sikkim’s 17th governor in Raj Bhawan, Gangtok.

Son of Late Shri Kalidas Kharwar and Late Smt. Pyari Devi, Shri Lakshman Prasad Acharya was born in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh, in October 1954. His grandpa, the late Shri Kanhaiya Prasad, guarded Banaras Hindu University. His family is lower middle-class. His siblings are Shriram, Shitla, and Vindhvasini Verma Kharwar.

Shri Lakshman Prasad Acharya first taught at Bhartiya Shishu Mandir. Acharya opened schools in rural areas without educational facilities because he loved teaching. His daughter Shraddha married social entrepreneur Baran Roy after he married Kumud Devi in June 1987.
Shri Acharya was an RSS swayamsevak outside the classroom. He taught at Ramnagar Varanasi’s Bhartiya Shishu Mandir from 1973 to 1975. In 1972, Shri Acharya and other activists were arrested protesting the “Shimla Agreement” sponsored by Shri Subramanium Swamy.

Shri Acharya finished RSS First Year OTC in 1974 as Swadeshi Jagran Manch Coordinator in Ramnagar, Varanasi.
Shri Acharya rose in the diverse opposition under Jai Prakash Narayan. He went underground to avoid arrest while continuing his activities at the top’s request.
Shri Acharya was the first to develop private elementary schools in Eastern Uttar Pradesh with his “Child Education in the Village” programme on June 22, 1977.
Shri Acharya joined the Shri Ram Janambhoomi Andolan in the 1980s as a Vishwa Hindu Parishad member.
Sri Lakshman Prasad Acharya, the 17th governor of Sikkim, has spent his life in education, social work, and public service.
